Patient Collections Representative Location: Remote (East Coast preferred) Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM EST Pay Rate: $17/hour Position Overview The Patient Collections Representative is responsible for reviewing open patient balances, contacting patients to collect payment or establish payment plans, investigating insurance discrepancies, and supporting inbound patient calls. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while maintaining accuracy and professionalism. Key Responsibilities Review patient account balances and make outbound calls to collect payments or establish payment plans. Investigate and resolve patient billing inquiries; communicate findings effectively. Respond to inbound patient calls with professionalism and accuracy. Document all account actions, billing statuses, and collection efforts thoroughly. Maintain working knowledge of Medicare guidelines and payer requirements. Identify billing or collections trends, propose resolutions, and escalate issues to leadership as needed. Process patient correspondence in a timely and accurate manner. Meet established productivity and quality standards. Support a positive work environment aligned with company values. Coach and mentor new team members, document coaching efforts, and provide performance feedback to management. Qualifications Education High School Diploma or GED required. Experience Minimum of 1 year of outbound patient collections experience in the medical industry. Skills & Competencies Strong verbal and written communication skills. Professional demeanor with ability to de-escalate difficult conversations. Understanding of insurance EOBs and denial reasoning. Strong data entry skills with accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to navigate multiple electronic systems efficiently. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other PC applications. Knowledge of call center telecommunications software, including outbound dialer systems. Excellent organization, time management, and prioritization skills. Ability to work independently, solve problems, and adapt to changing circumstances. Effective collaboration and communication with leadership and peers.
