100% Remote Tax Director- Must Live in CST – Up to $275,000 – Permanent Direct Hire- Work/Life Balance (40 hours a week all year long) – CPA Required
My client, a rapidly growing, entrepreneurial firm seeking a high level Tax & Financial Accounting Leader who brings the technical mastery of a seasoned CPA, paired with the leadership presence of a C level advisor. This is an ideal role for someone who has mastered the engine-tax, accounting, compliance, technical problem solving-but now thrives operating at a higher strategic altitude. The salary goes up to $275,000 depending on experience and will always be remote (must live in CST time zone).
The owner handles business development and needs a right-hand person to oversee the tax function, elevating financial operations, mentoring staff, and supporting continued growth. The ideal candidate is warm, professional, highly competent, and exceptional with clients, but who also knows how to manage a team and run an operation without getting bogged down in day to day minutiae.
Overview of the Tax Director
High Level Tax Leadership
- Provide executive level oversight of all individual, corporate, partnership, and family related tax matters.
- Review tax returns prepared by the team – quick, precise, high judgment review.
- Prepare or sign returns when necessary, though day to day preparation is not the primary focus.
- Lead tax planning across entities, families, and long term business objectives.
- Manage communications with IRS and taxing authorities.
Financial Accounting Oversight
- Review and interpret financial statements prepared by the team.
- Serve as the go to leader for financial accounting issues, technical questions, and complex matters.
- Provide broad accounting guidance to support operational and strategic decision making.
Operational & Leadership Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of tax and accounting professionals.
- Help build and refine scalable processes as the firm continues to grow.
- Collaborate with ownership like a COO style partner, ensuring smooth operations and outstanding client service.
- Identify opportunities for efficiency, improvement, and expansion.
Client Engagement & Business Development
- Represent the firm with warmth, confidence, and professionalism.
- Build strong, trust based client relationships.
Qualifications of the Tax Director
- CPA and have owned a firm or have been in top leadership at a firm
- Ability to manage both people and operations
