Overview

Provides functional and empirical analysis related to the planning, design, installation, and implementation of the network infrastructure. Configures network devices including the restoration of hardware and software. Anticipates and mitigates potential attacks through network or other connections to ensure the security of the system. Works with end users and vendors to resolve network hardware and software issues. May develop and administer training for process improvement. Reviews progress and evaluate results. Performs work under minimal supervision. Handles complex issues and problems and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff. Possesses comprehensive knowledge of subject matter. May act as a lead. 100% work from home REMOTE Travel Needs: 10% travel for on-site work at the USCG site in Alexandria, VA or Portsmouth, VA (when needed) Work Hours: Expected work week is 40 hours, Monday – Friday, 0800 – 1600 (Although work is mostly expected during the day, due to the need to accommodate the client’s desired circuit-migration schedule, work may need to be performed outside of core working hours). Responsibilities Serves as a subject matter expert for a project to migrate remaining U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Cisco routers from existing Verizon circuits to AT&T circuits
Strong understanding of data communication protocols (TCP/IP) and telecom services such as T1/T3/OC3/MPLS/SD-WAN/PPP/Cellular
Manages triage, configuration, and QA/testing for the engineering team
Assists with Tier II/III engineering support response
Trains and mentors’ junior engineers
Lead and contribute to the development and implementation of network architecture and design solutions
Follow standard operating procedures including the use of ticketing systems and documentation
Responsible for continual process improvement of team engineering efforts
Responsible for assessing team’s circuit migration completions and associated reporting to stakeholders
While performing remote work, video teleconferencing is expected in a distraction-free environment. A neutral or professional background (can be a corporate-approved digital background) and appropriate professional dress (e.g., no T-shirts, sweatshirts, etc.) are required Qualifications Must be US Citizen able to obtain a Public Trust (or higher DoD security clearance preferred)
Bachelor’s Degree in IT related field plus 4-years of relevant experience (OR 10 years of relevant networking experience in lieu of degree)
Prior US Coast Guard work experience (or other relatable government systems).
Active CISCO Certified Network Professional CCNP certification or higher
Current IAT Level II certification (Security +)
Extensive hands-on experience analyzing and configuring Cisco routers
Expert understanding of the following concepts and technologies: IP, ACL, BGP, OSPF, and VPN
